What Does a SEBI Registered Research Analyst Do? Varun Bhargav, Profit X Research

Profit X Research · 12 August 2026

A SEBI Registered Research Analyst (RA) is authorised to prepare and publish independent research on securities — equities, derivatives (F&O), commodities, and broader market/economic trends — and to issue "buy/sell/hold" recommendations or price targets to subscribers. Varun Bhargav, Proprietor of Profit X Research, has held this registration (SEBI Reg. No. INH000014508, BSE Enlistment No. 5998) since 16 January 2024, and brings 20+ years of experience in capital markets along with an MBA in Finance & Banking to that research. What the research covers Profit X Research's recommendation services span equities, derivatives (F&O), and commodities, along with commentary on the broader economic indicators and sectors that shape Indian markets. Recommendations are issued as intraday, swing (held up to 5 days), or positional (beyond 5 days) calls, each with a stated stop-loss and target, and each timestamped at the moment of issuance — not backdated or adjusted after the fact. What a Research Analyst does NOT do This is just as important as what an RA does. A SEBI Research Analyst: - Does not guarantee returns — no Research Analyst can, and past performance is never indicative of future results. - Does not manage or ask for access to a client's demat, trading, or bank accounts. - Does not advise on position sizing or how much quantity to buy — that decision, based on the client's own risk appetite and capital, is entirely the client's own; it falls outside the scope of RA services under SEBI regulations (that is closer to an Investment Adviser's role, a different SEBI registration). - Does not execute trades on a client's behalf. Every trade is placed by the client, in the client's own account. - Does not share in profits or losses. Profit X Research charges a fixed subscription fee only, never a cut of P&L. The business model, in plain terms Clients sign the Terms & Conditions/MITC and complete KYC (PAN, contact details) before any paid service begins, then subscribe to a plan and receive recommendations over Telegram, WhatsApp, SMS, or Email depending on the plan. There is no free trial. Every payment generates an invoice, and payments are only accepted through banking channels (UPI, bank transfer, or the Centralized Fee Collection Mechanism) — never cash. Every recommendation, and every public statement Varun Bhargav makes about a specific security, carries the disclosures required under Regulation 19 and Regulation 21 of the SEBI (Research Analysts) Regulations, 2014 — published in full on this site's Legal & Compliance page.
