How to Verify a SEBI Registered Research Analyst

Profit X Research · 12 August 2026

Before following any stock recommendation from anyone claiming to be a "SEBI registered" research analyst, verify it yourself — it takes less than a minute and it is the single most reliable way to tell a genuine, accountable Research Analyst apart from an unregistered tipster. Step 1: Check SEBI's own intermediary database SEBI maintains a public, searchable database of every registered intermediary — including every Research Analyst — at siportal.sebi.gov.in/intermediary/sebi-check. Search by the person's or firm's name, or directly by their registration number (every SEBI Research Analyst registration number begins with "INH"). A genuine registration will show the registered name, registration number, and validity status. Step 2: Check RAASB/BSE enlistment Every individual Research Analyst in India must also be enlisted with a Research Analyst Administration and Supervisory Body (RAASB) — for most individual RAs, this is BSE Ltd. An enlistment number (a numeric ID, separate from the SEBI "INH" registration number) confirms this second layer. Step 3: Check that the required disclosures are actually published A genuine SEBI Research Analyst is required to publish disclosures on financial interest, ownership (1%+ holdings), compensation received from the subject company, and any other material conflicts of interest — either in each research report or as a standing disclosure on their own website. If a person or channel promoting stock tips has no published disclosures, no verifiable registration number, and no way to check disciplinary history, that is a red flag. Step 4: Never trust a "guaranteed return" claim No SEBI Research Analyst — registered or not — can lawfully guarantee returns. Registration by SEBI, enlistment with RAASB/BSE, and certification from NISM do not, by themselves, guarantee performance or assure returns to investors. Treat any "guaranteed profit" or "guaranteed return" claim as a serious warning sign, regardless of what registration is claimed. Worked example: Profit X Research Varun Bhargav, Proprietor of Profit X Research, is registered with SEBI as a Research Analyst, Registration No. INH000014508, enlisted with BSE Ltd. (RAASB), No. 5998, registered on 16 January 2024. Searching "INH000014508" on siportal.sebi.gov.in/intermediary/sebi-check independently confirms this registration. The full disclosure checklist required under Regulation 19/21 of the SEBI (Research Analysts) Regulations, 2014 is published on this site's Legal & Compliance page.
